Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of overall wear and handling to the sides, edges and corners of the canvas. The areas of heavy impasto appear bright and stable. There are scattered points where the collaged burlap comes into contact with the Plexiglas front and has left oil paint residue. Framed under Plexiglas.

Catalogue Note

"When I use a 17th Century image (Velázquez) as my starting-off point or even a 20th Century image (Matisse), it is very exciting for me to interpret the image both in a painting and a sculpture and even in an etching. This allows me to create two different visions of the same image. That is what art is all about – how to invent many projects from one single image."
