Condition

This work is in four parts. The white sheet has an unevenly cut bottom edge. There are two artist pinholes in the top right and left corners. There are two noticeable accretions, one on the top edge, 1 inch from the top left corner, the other on the left edge, 4 inches below the top left corner. The three remaining colored sheets all have a rectangle shaped portion, approximately 1.5 by 2.5 inches, cut from the top left corner and four artist's pinholes in each corner. All colored sheets exhibit signs of significant undulation around edges where the edges curl up. The collaged components of each sheet are adhered verso to the sheets and exhibit signs of undulation and creasing. Within the yellow sheet, there are minor accretions scattered throughout the surface. There is a minor tear to the lower portion of the collaged mouth component. There is also an artist's pinhole, approximately 1/8 inches in diameter, on the upper portion of the collaged mouth. Within the orange sheet, there is a build-up of paper pulp within the black section of the top collaged component. Within the red sheet, there is a minor tear on the right edge, approximately 5 inches from the top. All four sheets are framed under Plexiglas.

“I liked the goopy, slightly disgusting surfaces of Abstract Expressionism and I thought such surfaces could be used to great advantage in combination with various kinds of more loaded images, images that didn’t lend themselves so easily to abstract equivalency” Mike Kelly
