Condition

This work is in good condition overall. The colors are bright, fresh and clean. There canvas is buckling slightly in the lower right and upper right corners and is slightly loose on its stretcher. There is evidence of scattered pinpoint white spot accretions throughout as well as scattered glossy surface accretions, particularly located in the black paint, visible under raking light. There is a vertical linear stretcher mark that runs down the center of the canvas. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is an area that fluoresces brightly, notably located in the green paint 46 to 48 inches from the right and 39 to 40 inches from the bottom, but there does not appear to be evidence of restoration. Framed.

Catalogue Note

"Shapes and color are one. Shape cannot exist unless it is indicated by a colored quality. Color is quality only when it is outlined by shape. The stroke (drawing, outline) is pretence which does not belong to one but to two color-shapes at a time. It does not generate color-shapes, but is the result of their meeting." Victor Vasarely
