Literature

Janssen, Hans, and Jacqueline Rapmund, Eds., Richard Serra: Drawings/Zeichnungen 1969-90: Catalogue Raisonné, Bern 1990, no. 253, illustrated in colour

Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. All four edges are deckled. The sheet is stapled to the mount in several places along the edges and undulates slightly. The sheet has discoloured in the lower two corners and there are irregularities in the pigment in places, which are likely to be inherent to the artist's choice of medium and working process.

Catalogue Note

“Drawing is a concentration on an essential activity and the credibility of the statement is totally in your hands. It’s the most direct, conscious space in which I work. I can observe my process from beginning to end, and at times sustain a continuous concentration (…) It’s one of the few conditions in which I can understand the source of my work.”
