Catalogue Note
In Untitled, Karin Kneffel playfully meanders between abstract patterns and representative depiction; the real and surreal. The floral carpet recalls the decadence of Baroque interiors whilst disappearing into a fictive point outside the canvas, its pattern expanding over the image in such a way that it questions the viewer's perspective and even the possibility of its own existence. The unusual combination of colours, patterns, composition and central canine character bring the work to the brink of surrealism, as if to ask for a further explanation, whilst stopping short of demanding one.
