  • tempera on wood panel with attached silver and enamel oklad
  • 12 1/8 x 10 3/4 in., 20.8 x 27.3 cm
the saint and first Martyr shown kneeling in prayer surrounded by six men with stones, Saul of Tarsus (later Paul) observes from Jerusalem at right, Christ with gilt halo at upper left, with gilt metal oklad set with hardstones and beads, apparently unmarked

Condition

the panel with areas of loss and repair consistent with age; the reverse with an extensive inscription (visible in photo), the enamel oklad with areas of loss and with abrasion to white stones or beads (no apparent signs of nacre indicating that they are pearls); the wood surfaces treated with a protective sealant (B72) that can be easily removed
