Description
- Bust of a woman personifying America
- white marble, on a veined white marble socle
- Italian, 19th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the bust is good, with dirt and some wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some light veining to the marble, consistent with the material. There are a few minor stable naturally occurring hairline fissures due to veining, notably one to the drapery around the proper left arm. There are a few naturally occurring inclusions to the marble, including to the nose and the proper left side of the forehead. There is a rust-coloured stain to the hair on the proper right side, probably due to an inclusion. There are some chips and abrasions to the high points, including to the top of the headdress at the front, and to some folds of drapery on the proper right side. There are further chips and abrasions, as well as some plaster residue, to the bottom edge of the bust. There is an old metal mount to the back.
The veined marble socle is in good condition, with some dirt and wear. There are several chips and abrasions to the edges and corners. There is a plaster restoration to the bottom section on one side.
