Catalogue Note

This table is an example of Gillows’ brilliant 'harlequin' library desk. An impressive multi-functional piece, it conforms to a pattern dating to 1789 and executed for the Earl of Shrewsbury (illustrated in L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, 1995, pl. 24).
