Description

  • porcelain, gilt metal
each with three bulbous sections of graduated size, the exterior with shaped cartouches enclosing precious objects, birds and flowers amongst landscapes, and mythical beasts, all reserved on a powder-blue ground, mounted; together with a blue and white ewer, 17th century

Condition

The porcelain underneath the mounts is not inspected. One triple gourd has a section of the rim restored. The other with the gilt rim detached, the porcelain is cut with associated small chips. Both vases with the porcelain slightly misfired to a yellowed tone, evident with the brown spots and crackling to the base of the vases. Minor glaze firing imperfections to the porcelain bodies such as burst glaze bubbles, iron spots and grits. The gilt mounts are slightly tarnished with wear to the gilding. The ewer is in general good condition with the exception of fritting, firing flaws and minor glaze firing imperfections which are characteristic of the period. The mouthrim has very minute chips/frits.
