Description

  • Arab and Moor
  • cold painted spelter, on ebonised wood bases
  • Probably Austrian, 20th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the spelter figures is good with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor rubbing and flaking to the paint at the high points, and notably to the Arab's hat and the back of his garment. There is a possible overpainted plaster fill to the back of the Arab's hat. There are a few small lacunae. An original casting line is visible at the Moor's dress around his legs. The strings of the Moor's instrument have detached at the bottom. There is some dark spotting to the spelter, in particular to both heads. There are a few nicks and scratches, including to the Moor's lips. There is a hole to the Moor's proper right elbow. The ebonised wood bases are in good condition with several chips and abrasions to the edges and corners, including chips to the paint.
