Condition
The gilt bronze has retained its original gilding, but as consistent with age, use and environmental conditions, one can see light wear to high reliefs, light dirt to crevices and some minute oxidation points in places.
Front glass door latch is slightly loose. Tearing to fabric element at front by clock face winders.
Cracks and losses of ebonized veneers to side of clock.
The dial with black velvet fabric showing losses around key holes.

Charles Cressent was one of the foremost ébénistes of the first half of the eighteenth century. He trained as both a sculptor and furniture maker. This clock case is the second of two recorded versions and both versions were available with or without a bracket support.
