Catalogue Note

André-Charles Boulle has been credited as the source of the original model by Jean Nérée Ronfort in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. II, pp. 459-520. The design used by Boulle, in turn, derives from the work of Jean Bérain. Examples of early 18th century pairs are in the collections at Warwick Castle and Waddesdon Manor.
