Catalogue Note

'Milking Scene' was a popular subject woven multiple times in varying widths by Peter (d. 1763) and Jan-Frans van der Borght (d. 1774), after their father Jasper van der Borght's composition, an example of which was sold on the Paris Art Market, November 22nd, 1928, signed A.C. with Brussels Mark.

Marillier lists extant versions of A Milking Scene found at Castle Bromwich, West Midlands; North Mymms Park, Hertfordshire; Lochinch, Glasgow; Schloss Thurn und Taxis, Regensburg. Two additional versions were offered at the Wentworth sale at Christie's on the 20th November, 1919; and at the Chateau de Vigney sale in Paris on 5th June 1919.
