after 18th-century Meissen models by Johann Joachim Kändler, each figure naturalistically modelled and colored, on a rocky base encrusted with mushrooms and leaves, pseudo crossed swords marks in blue.

Condition

There are some occasional, very minor chips to the mushroom caps and tip of the applied leaves. Otherwise in good condition.

Catalogue Note

Originally modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler in 1735 for the Japanese Palace in Dresden, a Meissen pair of guinea fowls, the prototype for the present pair, was in the Collection of Sir Gawaine and Lady Baillie, sold at Sotheby's London, May 1, 2013, lot 195.
