with the figure of Oedipus and the sphinx

Condition

Dial with some rubbing; not extensive. Patinated bronze with some rubbing and some paint to javelin, which is possibly later or associated. Marble with some abrasion and minor chips. In good condition.

Catalogue Note

André Galle was born in Saint-Etienne in 1761. Galle began his career as a bronzier for Louis XVI and later for Napoleon. He is recorded at both at rue Colbert and rue Richelieu between 1820 and 1830.
