Condition

Very good general condition. This composition may have originally been created as a project for an over-the-door decoration. The painting has been relined. Under UV light, no repaint is visible. A small material loss appears on the lower left alongside the frame.

Catalogue Note

Autour de la table : Berthier, Lameth, Beurnonville, Biron, Luckner, le duc de Chartres debout, Valence, Duhoux d'Aboville et Lynch. L'insurrection du 20 juin 1792 à Paris a semé le désarroi dans l'état-major du général Luckner qui vient d'entrer à Courtrai. Luckner ne veut plus poursuivre l'invasion de la Belgique selon le plan de Dumouriez, mais le duc de Chartres et Biron enlèvent un vote pour la reprise de l'offensive.

Le tableau est visible sur une photographie de la chambre de la Comtesse de Paris (1848-1919) à Eu, vers la gauche, sur le mur du fond (voir la photographie ci-dessous)

The June 20th 1792 insurrection in Paris troubled General Luckner's joint staff who just entered in Courtrai. Luckner wished to stop the invasion of Belgium, as organized by Dumouriez, but the duc de Chartres and Biron voted to continue the attack.
The painting appears in a photograph taken in the Comtesse de Paris' bedroom at Eu, in the background on the left (see photograph below).
