Condition

Illustration is quite accurate. Veneer has dried up: it is lifting in places and even missing on some areas, as visible on the photograph. Stains and scratches all throughout the surface. Marble tops with edge chips. Gilt-bronze mounts slightly tarnished.

Jean-François Leleu, ébéniste reçu maître en 1764

Le placage disposé en "ailes de papillon" est l'une des caractéristiques de la production de Leleu : ce type de décor, où le placage se suffit à lui-même et souligne la préciosité des essences exotiques, se retrouve sur plusieurs commodes réalisées à la même période, comme celle vendue le 1er avril 1974 à Paris, étude Ader Picard Tajan, Palais Galliera, lot 133.
