Catalogue Note

Une "lanterne sourde", aussi appelée lanterne de voleurs, était conçue de telle façon que celui qui la portait voyait sans être vu, ce qui n'est pas sans évoquer la vie aventureuse du général chouan Georges Cadoudal (1771-1804). Ses tentatives répétées de restaurer les Bourbons sur le trône furent déjouées par la police du Premier Consul Bonaparte et il fut finalement condamné et exécuté le 25 juin 1804.
