the celadon jade handle carved in shallow relief with two stylized lotus blooms borne on a continuous leafy scroll, terminating to a chilong, the handle transitioning into the blade, set in a celadon jade sheath embellished with gilt-copper floral design mounts and suspension loop, inlaid with coral and turquoise (2)

Provenance

Acquired in China in the 1940s.

Condition

There is a chip to the base of the handle approximately 1/2 in. (1.3 cm) long, a small chip to the raised band decoration and scattered minor nicks to the edges. One of the chilong's foot has been chipped. The blade has slight corrosion to the handle edge, expected wear and small areas that have tarnished. The sheath has wear to the gilding, three stones are possibly replaced and one coral petal has a small hairline crack.
