註：管平筆下仕女，效改琦一路，纖巧瘦弱，婀娜多姿，乃金城門下擅寫人物聞名者。本幅畫風一改，概取十洲之法，線條細勁，設色沉穩，古意盎然。以明妃和番為題，身披狐裘，跨騎遠涉塞外，婢僕或攜琵琶隨侍，或牽馬前導，皆掩袖禦風，雖無配置背景，惟大漠飛沙，撲面而至，畫中人物行色，即可見矣。
上具惠孝同楷書長題，迻錄晚清蘇州詞人朱酉生詞。朱氏，名綬，一字仲環，道光乙未（1835）舉人，工詞，其〈知止堂詞錄〉僅得斷簡殘篇傳世。惠氏捨歷代咏明妃詞曲，獨取知止堂之作，足見下筆時頗費心思。蓋柘湖書畫造詣不凡，鑑賞眼光卓著，一睹平湖此作，非尋常之筆，以書配畫，當細意為之。且兩人同列北樓門牆，具同門之誼，自不搪塞充數也。
