Estimate
60,000 - 80,000 HKD
bidding is closed

Description

  • Ivory
the dyed ivory figure carved in the round standing and holding a covered jar, her multiple layers of clothing deftly rendered, all secured with a tasselled belt suspending adornments hanging by her side, her black hair arranged in a high chignon, all above a green-stained stand carved with cloud scrolls

Provenance

A private European collection.

Condition

The figure is in overall good condition. There are typical age cracks to the carving, and small chips and nicks to the fragile extremities, especially to the tips of the petals of her hair adornments as well as the hems of her clothing, all as consistent with age. An approx. 3.1 cm section of her back veil has been professionally restored to repair a chip, with an application of polishing to imitate the aged patina. There are some touch-ups and age cracks to the stand that have been stabilized.
