the baluster body of the vase picked out with a band of archaistic pendent blades, the stepped cover with a knopped finial, all amidst a rockwork base issuing pine trees and depicted with four boys standing on ledges and a small toad climbing upwards, the stone of a pale celadon colour, wood stand
Condition
The vase is generally in good condition, with occasional nibbling consistent with age and the type. There are also minute nicks to the fragile extremities as can be expected. With traces of glue between the cover and the base of the finial.

A yellow jade vase similarly carved in the round with a group of young boys, was sold in our New York rooms, 1st June 1993, lot 17; another was sold at Christie’s London, 3rd November 1969, lot 149. See also a vase modelled with boys playing with animals, sold in our New York rooms, 5th June 1985, lot 10; another from the collection of the Countess of Halifax, sold at Christie’s London, 13th February 1978, lot 114; and a white jade vase carved with a boy and deer, in the Tianjin Museum, Tianjin, illustrated in Jade Wares Collected by Tianjin Museum, Beijing, 2012, pl. 187.
