the joyful immortal seated on a rocky outcrop holding a peach in its right hand and a ruyi in his left hand, surrounded by numerous children carrying offerings including a pomegranate and a musical pipe sheng, all flanked by a standing crane and a stag, the bamboo richly patinated to a warm chestnut-brown colour

Condition

A 3.5 cm. section of the ruyi shaft Shou Lao holds in his right hand is chipped and missing. The front section of the deer standing to the side of the base is also chipped and missing. There are further smaller occasional chips as well as age cracks extending from the base, some surface wear including a scratch on the immortal's bulging head but overall the condition remains quite good. The bamboo bears a fine age patina.
