Description

  • copper
of slender baluster form with a quatrefoil rim, set with archaistic animal-handles, finely painted on each side with a shaped panel enclosing the portrait of a European gentleman, against a mottled lavender ground picked out with flower scrolls

Condition

The vase was likely to be inscribed with a Qianlong mark written in blue on a white ground, now polished off. There are restorations to the enamels, the largest on a patch of approx 4 by 4 cm to the left of one of the figural panel, around the neck, below the rim and the interior mouth.
