A HUANGHUALI LOBED TRAY AND FOUR WOOD CUPS 17TH / 18TH CENTURY

of quatrefoil section carved with a raised barbed rim, the densely grained wood bearing a fine patina, the four cups carved from a single section of hardwood, with deep rounded sides supported on a slightly concave foot and encircled by a double-fillet at the rim, the interiors with metal lining  

There are minute chips to the rim the cups to varying degrees, and a few age cracks consistent with age, some that have been stabilized. There is expected tarnishing and occasional dents to the metal linings inside the cups. There is an old chip to the center of one of the two bracket foliation forming the barbed rim of the tray and a few old repaired section to the rim.
