Description

of archaistic form, the jue with a U-shaped body supported on three splayed triangular-sectioned feet, the exterior cast with a diapered band and loop handle on one side issuing from the mouth of a horned mythical beast, the spout surmounted by a pair of posts, the underside carrying an inscription commemorating an official’s promotion and intent to govern with honesty, and dated to the 22nd year of Chenghua (in accordance with 1486), the surface richly patinated to a rich dark brown colour
