Condition

Pile evenly low to knotheads throughout with spot foundation showing in areas of foldwear---some with repiling. Missing outer side guard stripes and sides now overcast, thus secured. Ends with partial flatwoven finishes. Flexible handle, sound fabric and condition. Please note that a license may be required to export textiles, rugs and carpets of Iranian origin from the United States. Clients should enquire with the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regarding export requirements. Please check with the Carpet department if you are uncertain as to whether a lot is subject to this restriction or if you need assistance with such enquiries

Catalogue Note

The drawing of the animals and their placement in mirrored pairs on the field of this intriguing rug are very similar to those on the the Safavid Hunting rug sold Sotheby's London, 14 April 2010, lot 357 and its pair currently in a private collection.
