Catalogue Note
Roger Tallon is a French engineer and designer whose prolific creations deeply impacted the post-war industrial landscape in France. Tallon’s driving thought was for design dedicated to the improvement of objects for the greater good of society. His views were close to those taught at the European Bauhaus school which promoted an aesthetic functional utilitarianism. A professor of design since 1957, he was a founding member of the design department at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1963.
Camera, French train TGV and Eurostar, Salomon ski shoes, Casio and Lip watches, seats, we are still surrounded by Tallon's objects. They were revolutionaries at the time, like the first portable television he created for Thomson in 1966. One of his signature objects is the spiral staircase M400, designed in 1964, of which some examples are housed in the collections of museum, such as the MoMA in New York.
