Catalogue Note

Second edition in English, and a very handsome set. Lavater (1741-1801) was a German poet and mystical writer. The present work, first published in German in 1772, is famous for it's splendid illustrations and vignettes, including some plates by William Blake. It was extremely influential in the history of psychiatry and of art.
