- Autograph letter signed "Victor H", in French, to the artist Alphonse-Léon Nöel, dated 6 August 1836, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Two pages. Hugo remarked on eye trouble, which is chronic, commenting that it is from writing "Notre Dame de Paris" and the Nights at the Lamp". Alphone-Léon Nöel made the portrait of Victor Hugo and the portrait of Hugo's lifelong lover Juliette Drouet in 1832.
- Autograph letter signed "Victor Hugo", in French, to Theodore Karcher, dated 22 July (1864), in Hauteville House (Guernsey). One page. Hugo compliments Karcher on his play Reinzi, with a 2 line couplet in praise. Theodore Karcher visited Hugo in exil in Guernsey in January 1864 and offered him a copy of his play.
