69 leaves (9 x 6 in.; 227 x 152 mm), text in red and black; red, blue and gold border, illustrated with 29 original erotic watercolors (2 full-page, 27 half-page) and one original ornamental watercolor on the first page (probably supplied). Contemporary dark calf, large gilt paper on covers. Binding rubbed and fragile, spotting, a few pages loose.

Catalogue Note
This rare example of sexology handbook was commissioned by Saadat Ali Khan II (c.1752–1814), 5th Nawab of the princely State of Awadh (or Oudh) and written by his private doctor (hakim-e-khas). The illustrations were made by the official royal painter.
The manuscript is divided into 14 chapters including those on development of male sexuality, development of female sexuality; things to do before, during and after copulation; description of the 14 postures (assan) of copulation; medical compounds for erectile dysfunction; information about female orgasm.
