Catalogue Note

London through Madeline's eyes.
This large picture illustrates the beginning of the expedition of the Paris visitors to buy a "retired" horse to cheer up the ailing and melancholy Pepito. As the girls and Miss Clavel march down the street they pass their London opposites: a line of curious schoolboys out with their teacher. The scene includes a red double-decker bus, a street sweeper with cart and broom, and a row of houses with smoking chimneys.
