Catalogue Note

A draft of 14,000 men "as the quota of Pennsylvania" to fight the British, General Worrell's copy.

The Governor recalls "The Revolution of America, that great and mighty struggle, which issued in giving to the United States that place among the powers of the earth, to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitled them, had scarcely been consummated, when the King ... began an invasion of our rights and property ... The cup of patience - of humiliation and long suffering, has been filled to overflowing ... it remains for the Militia and Volunteers of Pennsylvania ... to render efficient the measures which are or may hereafter be adopted by the United States' government."

He calls for the draft of 14,000 militia, including 700 artillery, 700 cavalry, 1400 riflemen, and 11,200 infantry. The quotas of the first seven divisions are to be under the command of Major General Isaac Worrell, to whom this copy is addressed by the Adjutant General William Reed.
