In-folio (463 x 365 mm). Percaline grise de l'éditeur, illustrée d'un ange noir et doré au premier plat, et d'un médaillon à l'effigie de Pallas Athena au second, tranches dorées.
Quelques piqûres, et salissures légères. Coiffes et coins usagés.

Première édition américaine de l'édition illustrée par Gustave Doré parue l'année précédente à Londres. Ce fut la dernière œuvre illustrée de Doré, mort en 1883.



Titre par Elihu Vedder et 26 gravures sur bois par divers artistes, d'après Gustave Doré.
