Catalogue Note

Inspired by Régence style, this imposing table reveals the influence of the French education received by the Bavarian court architect Joseph Effner (1687-1745). After his training in Paris with Germain de Boffrand (1667-1754), he was appointed Oberhofbaumeister in 1720 and thus responsible for all major ducal projects of architecture and interior decoration. His style was highly influential throughout South Germany and parts of Austria and motifs such as the use of satyr masks as well as white ground surface combined with parcel-gilt carved elements became idiosyncratic of Bavarian furniture.
