Description

  • walnut, elm
  • 210cm. wide; 6ft. 10¾in.
with arched scrolled padded back with scallopshell top-rail, outward scrolled padded arms and serpentine padded seat on cabriole legs and scrolled feet, the frame carved with foliage, upholstered in 18th century and later, floral gros-point needlework

Condition

Back unstable and would benefit from some attention. Old marks. chips and scratches and insect damage as visible from the catalogue photograph commensurate with age and use. There are some hairline and scattered age cracks and old very minor restorations. The rear middle leg is possibly a later replacement. The base of the arms at the rear have possibly been strengthened with later pieces of wood. The floral gros point needlework has some repairs, and all the needlework in the top corners is later.
