Description
- poplar
with a pierced top-rail and cartouche shaped padded back, downscrolled arms and serpentine seat on cabriole legs and scrolled feet, the frame carved with acanthus and rocaille and flowers, upholstered with 18th century red velvet
Condition
In overall good conserved condition. Joints sound and sturdy. Old minor marks and chips and losses to the gilding which can easily be touched up. Some very minor losses to the carving which are hardly noticeable. There is a large construction crack in the top-rail which will need filling and also where the arms join the supports. There are scattered hairline construction cracks generally which can easily be filled. Evidence of old very minor woodworm which appears to be no longer active. The back is painted not gilded. Reblocked to the underside.
