An Old Testament Biblical Tapestry panel, Northern Netherlands, now made into a cushion, 17th century

woven with a central cartouche enclosing figures with architectural colonnade and landscape in the background, with floral surround on an indigo ground, backed with modern plain blue linen, edges applied with complimentary coloured tasselled passementerie edging

Tapestry with some losses in areas, for example in the lower section of the central cartouche, in the area depicting paved flooring, there are some holes that reveal the natural coloured interlining support below including small holes in top and left corners to indigo ground. This also applies to the rose in the lower left corner, adjacent to the medallion. There are some areas of weakness, visible as small holes or weft threads showing. Weft threads visible in tulip on right side of border. For example small holes are visible in the indigo ground along the top border, and small holes effecting tip of a leaves, flowerheads and stem of flower in same border. Small holes and repairs in other areas. Small areas of reweaving in areas, for example to paving in areas. Condition commensurate with age. Generally stable. Decorative panel. Backed with later azure blue linen and edged with complimentary coloured tasselled passementerie.
