Description

  • After Jean-Etienne Liotard
  • The chocolate girl
  • oil on canvas
  • 84 cm by 54 cm

Provenance

Sale, Paris, Bordereau, 27 June 2001, lot 167.

Condition

The canvas has been relined, the paint surface is clean, the colours are bright and the details crisp. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals what appear to be two campaigns of restoration: some old minor retouching along the margins of the picture and some strengthening around the silhouette of the girl's face; and some more recent, very sensitively executed spot retouching in the girl's right arm, her chest and her cheek. In overall good condition without the need for further intervention. Offered in a plain gilt wood frame with some losses.
