each with a pear-shaped body rising from a stepped splayed foot to a slender neck flaring gently at the rim, painted with three recumbent mythical beasts in soft copper-red tones shading to a paler red and mottled with emerald-green, their eyes picked out in underglaze-blue and the details highlighted in gilding over the glaze, the rim gilt
Condition
Both vases are in good condition with the exception of two restored shallow rim chips to one vase and associated loss to the gilded decoration, an 8 x 6mm., shallow flake to the bottom of one foot of the other vase, one vase is slightly larger than the other, minor glaze firing imperfections to both vases including scattered glaze pin holes and iron spots, light glaze scratches to both and it should be noted that the decoration on both vases is of a slightly brighter copper-red tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
