Catalogue Note

Born in Liaoning, Nie Ou is an award-winning artist celebrated for her colourful ink wash paintings that fuse a unique artistic vision with nostalgia for her youth. Before studying traditional Chinese painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where she was taught by Jiang Zhaohe, Ye Qianyu, Li Keran and Liu Lingcang, Nie spent several years living and working in an agricultural community in Shanxi Province during the Cultural Revolution. In order to reproduce the natural pastoral atmosphere of the community, Nie created a unique and refreshing ink-wash world entirely of her own. Nie has exhibited extensively in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Switzerland, China, Singapore and the US.
