Catalogue Note
The Jin Ping Mei (1617), or the Golden Lotus, is a Ming dynasty vernacular novel formerly notorious and banned for its sexual content. In 1987, Zhu Xinjian began his Golden Lotus series that illustrated various scenes in the erotic novel and provoked a great stir throughout society upon its exhibition.
