Catalogue Note
The present genealogy, stretching back to 'Ali, the final Rightly-Guided Caliph and son-in-law of The Prophet, is an unusual seventeenth-century document from the Ottoman-period Maghrib. It is most likely to originate from Algeria, as the place names al-Jazaʼir and Tlemcen are mentioned within the text, along with the dates 1086, 1130 and 1152 AH (1675, 1717 and 1739 AD). The later two dates appear to have been added by witnesses, following the production of the manuscript.
