Catalogue Note

The present piece is a beautiful example of Yildiz porcelain at its finest. For further information on the Yildiz factory, installed by Sultan Abdulhamid II (r.1876-1909) in his palace, see J. Soustiel, La Céramique Islamique, 1985, pp.350-4. Soustiel also illustrates the same crescent moon and star mark with a date of 1312, described as Eseri Istanbul ('Work of Istanbul'), indicating its Yildiz provenance (ibid, p.352,'J').
