Description
- wood core, with mother of pearl, jade and colourful stone
designed with petal-shaped mother-of-pearl sections, the lid fitted onto wooden core painted with golden designs and mounted with faceted nephrite finial and pink stone
Condition
In general good condition, two of mother-of-pearl pieces with minor chip and hairline crack, some of mother-of-pearl sections near base probably re-consolidated at a later stage (as shown by few traces of glue), very minor chip to jade, as viewed.

Comparative pen-cases are preserved in the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, Istanbul (inv.nos. 4038 and 4040), one of which featured in Garo Kurkman's Osmanlı Gümüş Damgaları, 1996, 163. Another similar pen-case is in the Khalili Collection, London (See Rogers 1995, p.170).
