Catalogue Note
Kutch silverware is characterised by its decoration of floral vines with animals, notably tigers, peacocks and birds such as on the present example. Technically, the silver design was punched inwards rather than outwards, and the design created from a sophisticated cast wax model. Kutch silverware was so admired that it was copied all over India and even in Europe and the United States where models were to be found for sale in fashionable shops (Wilkinson 1999, p.67).
