Catalogue Note

It is rare to find Bidri huqqa bases in which the traditional design scheme is reversed such as on the present example. The silver takes over, as the base is covered in sheet silver with a design that is cut out and inlaid with silver wire so that it stands out as a silhouette against the dark ground. A similar example is illustrated in Zebrowski 1997, pp.236-240, no.398 and another in Topsfield 2004, p.238, no.98.
