A Mughal ivory powder horn, India, 17th/18th century

composed of two joined sections of tusk, worked in relief and in the round with hunting quadrupeds and birds, each side with gazelle heads, one emerging from the mouth of a tiger, the others carved in mirror-form, a spring-action levered steel stopper attached to top 

In general good condition, some rubbing to surface and discoloration of ivory (whitened), the two sections secured together (possibly glue) and cannot be opened, with hairline cracks on surface, some dirt in recessed areas, as viewed.
