of squat globular form with a diamond lattice design containing split-palmettes and arabesques on a ground of red pigment, with a blue band of lotus buds under the rim, the interior with incised fish motifs

In general good condition, some of original pigment rubbed and minor sections missing with some associated retouching, some oxidisation to surface, scratched on underside, as viewed.

The quality of the polychromatic enamelwork in blue, red and black on the present basin is outstanding, and it is rare for such a large amount to have remained intact. A torchstand, also retaining much of its colourful enamelwork, sold at Christie's London, 25 April 2013, lot 120.
