Description

  • lacquer and mirror
of oval form with removable cover decorated on the front with a scene of the Holy family, signed and dated to top, and reverse with a scene of courtly courtship, the reverse of mirror case with another version of the Holy family, bordered with scrolling leafy flowers, mirror inside

Condition

In good condition overall, with some very minor loses to lacquer particularly along edges, with some consolidation and restoration, the interior of cover with some cracquelure, mirror possibly later restoration, affixed with red tape, as viewed.

This signature corresponds to that of the celebrated pupil of 'Ali Ashraf, Muhammad Sadiq, whose signature varies between 'painted by the most humble Muhammad Sadiq' or 'O you who are true to Your promise' as in the present example.
